The Lesser of Two Evils

“The lesser of two evils.” That’s what a friend told me when asked about John McCain. What is it about McCain that conservatives abhor? The response was quick. “He hates my industry, the pharmaceutical industry, he’s not business minded, and I don’t like his view on illegal immigration” When asked how he would vote. “McCain.” I don’t disagree with his assessment. There are many who feel the same. Yet I believe this dissatisfaction has grown to contempt. Many show contempt for this man regardless of his more conservative views. While he doesn’t reflect what conservatives wish he does represent sacrifice and service. Some would question his motives but it’s truly hard to see into a man’s heart. So we must take him at his word. As conservatives we need to stay true to fair-minded debates. Focus on issues instead of personal attacks.
Why? The Clinton’s are gone. It seems the tide has changed and the liberal left will anoint a new leader. A leader that many find inspirational, he seems to bring hope where none exists. Some pundits on the Right have started to analyze Senator Obama. The majority of this analysis has been substantive. Asking what does he mean by change. Many point out his socialistic style agenda of wealth redistribution. It has also turned personal and divisive. Talk show hosts like Michael Galleagar repeatedly insist on calling Senator Obama by his full name with emphasis on his middle name “Hussane”. He intimates concern for a Muslim being a president. This is dishonest. Senator Obama is not a Moslem. He has never been a Moslem. Rather he has been a devoted member of his own Christian domination for many years. I must point out that his minister has very strong views that concern me. But his middle name does not. This is a deceptive lie that we don’t need. We can win on facts. We can win on substance.

We need to disagree with McCain on his failure to enforce the border not in our perception that he detests conservatives. We need to disagree with Obama that healthcare for every man, women, and child, including all immigrates who can make it to the states is careless not that he has some desire to turn us over to communism. We can win this point for point. Conservative values win. Ideas can be wrong. I believe we are fortunate to have two men running for the oval office of character. It is time to look at the issue my fellow conservatives. Let’s keep McCain to the Right and keep Obama as Senator of Illinois. Let’s do it with the respect and dignity they deserve.

Conservatives for Obama

Did I just say that! Yes, and with Medved's excellent skills at persuasion we now have the pleasure of two parties representing the same ideals. Yes there are some differences, and some of them are remarkable. However there are some strong similarities that conservatives have pointed out over and over. Medved's defense of McCain is superb. His colleagues don’t agree at all with his position and but apparently a great deal of the Republican Party does. Might I suggest that instead of rallying behind a Republican candidate that supports a liberal agenda we support a Democratic candidate with a liberal agenda? We won’t be disappointed as we return to those golden day’s mixing a little of the Carter administration and the Clinton administration. When the country has had it fill of the Democrats hysterical antics we can stand aside and clearly point to liberal policies as the cause of our problems. If we however use a band-aid to cover a large wound that needs surgical debredment it will look nice at first but the stench will build and the band-aid will fall off revealing a wound that runs deep. The Republicans will be the party at fault.

Black Tuesday

Way to go, the republican party is now a fraction of the democrat party. I guess we can now officially state that we are a socialist society. 50% of republicans clearly showed that they don't care about conservativism.

Conservatives Choose McCain in South Carolina?

McCain Lock Republican Based in South Carolina with such issues a pro-abortion and a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants. In last night primary shouldn't we ask why 50% of those considering themselves liberal choose to vote for McCain? Shouldn't we ask we 50% of those who are pro-abortion voted for McCain? Shouldn't we ask why 50% of those who want a form of amnesty voted for McCain? I hope we ask this. We need to ask this. In a general election those that value amnesty and abortion will indeed choose the candidate that best reflects what they want. it could be McCain it could be a Democrat. My guess is a Democrat. Shouldn't we ask Republicans choose a candidate that most closely reflects what we want?

What Would Jesus Do South Carolina?

What Would Jesus Do South Carolina?

I heard a sound bite saying, “I like him because he’s a believer.” Wow, that is something to get behind. So if Barbara Boxer declares tomorrow she is a Republican who cares, she jumps in the race for the nomination, should we get behind her? Let’s look at the issues. Yes, she will be in favor or helping those just trying to make a better life for their families. Though they may have disregarded our laws they are good hard working members of our community do the jobs we used to do. I mean won’t do. She will give the chance for representation of our southern neighbor’s right here in our country. Now they don’t have the resources we have so we will finance a consulate office with the money raised from U.S. citizens. This is compassionate, this is caring, this will cost.  So she will raise taxes but only on what is necessary. But she will be a Republican, and she is a BELIEVER.

What we just outlined is the campaign promises and actions of Gov. Mike Huckabee. If Christ was a conservative would he support Huckabee? I don’t think so, “I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot…because thou art lukewarm…I will spue thee out of my mouth.” It’s is Gov Huckabee who said enforcing our immigration laws is ‘shear folly” As governor he wanted children of illegal immigrants eligible for scholarships and in-state tuition. “They are God’s children. They are human beings. Many of them come just because they need a job. And I think many of them, as you know, are badly exploited and mistreated…” “So I think we ought to be sure we look at the humanitarian side of this issue to try to make sure that all human beings are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights, whether they are citizens of this country or not."

God’s children yes, but they are not citizens and therefore should follow the same rules we have for all of God’s children. Obey our laws. South Carolina, we can only hope you vote for an individual of integrity and oh…someone who shares conservative values! We can not and should never select a person in respect to the tenets of ones faith. Jimmy Carter is considered a man of deep conviction and faith. Ask yourself if you would vote for former President Carter today if he was a Republican. Other candidates like Fred Thompson, Duncan Hunter, and Mitt Romney are all men of faith as well they might not be a former Baptist minister, their not Baptist, but they more importantly are conservatives in action.

Iowa Should be First President Carter

Iowa Should be First President Carter

Earlier this year President Carter commented that Iowa should no longer be first.

It would be better for some if we just left the little states out of it. What does middle America know about electing a president. I read comments that those in California or Texas are upset that a state like Iowa, Wisconsin, or New Hampshire are first in deciding who they want to represent them. "That isn't right," they say, "we are much bigger."

That my friends is the point. Once California, Florida, New York, or Texas vote it matters little what other states might want. A big ship once headed in any direction is difficult to turn but a small vessel can be changed with less effort. Those of us that have lived in the west know well what it can feel like to have your vote mean less when you watch the evening news, seeing the instant polling and decide whether it's still worth it to go vote (right or not many react this way) Giving those in Nevada, Wisconsin, or Iowa a chance to vote before most of the big kids will give a voice to citizens just as worthy as any big state.

The second benefit comes when you look at the candidates at the start and when it is over. The way the system currently works makes it possible, that the Huckabee's, Kerry's, and Hunters can obtain a chance to gain a voice by focusing on a state that cares more about what you say face to face than on what they see or hear in the nightly news.

If the party faithful decide that Huckabee or Edwards is not what they want they can easily change the course. If you were to allow New York or California the first swing the impact would be enormous giving Nevada little voice in what they had to say. This is the most democratic process we can have and it gives a chance that the small guy without huge cash reserves, without fame, to get their shot.

Consider if the GOP had any power house state up front. First the capital would be enormous to get your voice heard. Name recognition would be paramount. Popularity would rule the day. In 2008 we would most like be presented with our two front runners, Mayor Guliani and Senator Clinton as our candidates. They have the overwhelming name power that a state as large as California would be difficult to overcome.

As Bill Gardner, Secretary of State for New Hampshire said, "it gives the little guy a chance." it takes more than big dollars and flashy add campaigns. Name recognition can be overcome with good old fashioned grassroots effort. "We have made it possible for the so-called unknown candidates to make their case without having millions of dollars in the bank. and in turn, we demand that candidates move beyond the rope line and scripted town hall meetings, and directly answer the hard questions form voters. As a result, the voters, the candidates and the political process all benefit..."

Well said. So everyone who is upset show some patience. Remember the words of a past President who said, "now if I can get seventy percent of what it is I'm trying to get...I'll take that and then continue to try to get the rest in the future." The big states have seventy percent, show some patience and let the 30% have their say when it means something.
